Emma Shirk's Obituary
Mrs. Emma Shirk, age 93, passed away Saturday morning, September 22, 2012, in Muskegon. Emma was a life resident of Muskegon, born August 30, 1919 to Joseph (Sr.) and Anna (Hamm) Schuitema. Emma had been a waitress for the former Simpson Drug Store and previously worked as manager of the Sandy Beach Camp Ground. She was a member of Hope Reformed Church and of its Bible Study. Emma enjoyed knitting, crocheting, bowling and art-crafts. SURVIVORS include her daughter, Sandy Thompson of Muskegon; 3 step-children, Linda (Paul) Raney of Texas, Gary (Yvonne) Shirk and Sharon (Ken) Anderson, both of Muskegon; 10 Grandchildren, 17 Great-grandchildren; 3 sisters, Marie Lederer of Muskegon, Harriet (Elmer) Reed of Leesburg, FL and Betty Bjornstrom of Muskegon. Emma was preceded in death by her husband, Royce; 2 brothers, Joseph, Jr., and Frank Schuitema, 2 sisters, Ida Salter and Angie Kesti. FUNERAL SERVICES will be 11 AM Thursday at Hope Reformed Church (1878 Evanston Ave.) with Pastor Steven Hyma officiating. Burial will be in Sunrise Memorial Gardens. VISITATION with Emma’s family will be 5-8 PM Wednesday at The Sytsema Chapel of Sytsema Funeral Homes, Inc.,737 Apple Avenue, Muskegon, MI 49442 (231-726-5210); and 1 hour prior to the service at church.
