Ernest "Ernie" H. Essebaggers' Obituary
Mr. Ernest H. Essebaggers, age 94, passed away Wednesday, April 23, 2014 in Muskegon. He was born on April 24, 1919 in Muskegon to Isaac and Kate (Oltoff) Essebaggers, and resided in Muskegon his entire life. Mr. Essebaggers loved the Lord, and was a lifetime member of Unity Reformed Church where he loved to sing, and he served as elder and deacon. He also served on the Jolman School Board. Mr. Essebaggers and his wife loved camping and traveled all over the country. Mr. Essebaggers was a sports guy, and enjoyed softball, baseball, football and especially the Chicago Cubs and U of M sports. He also played on the 1937 Muskegon High School Football Class A Mythical State Championship team. Mr. Essebaggers worked at Shaw Box Crane for 43 years, before retiring in 1980. On December 8, 1939, he married the former Henrietta “Sarah” DeYoung, and she preceded him in death on February 10, 2006 after 67 years of marriage. SURVIVORS include 2 children, Wayne (Cory) Essebaggers of Whitehall, and Lori (Scott) Fisher of Muskegon; 13 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren; 2 sisters-in-law, Mary DeYoung and Edna Essebaggers; and many nieces, nephews. Mr. Essebaggers was also preceded in death by his daughter, Elaine (her husband, Lewie) Cooper; his son, Randy (his wife, Terri) Essebaggers; 5 brothers, and 2 sisters. The FUNERAL SERVICE will be 11AM Monday at Unity Reformed Church (1521 Porter Rd.) with Pastor Kyle DeYoung officiating. VISITATION with the family will be 3-5PM Sunday at The Sytsema Chapel, Sytsema Funeral Homes, Inc. 737 Apple Ave. 231-726-5210. Burial will take place in Oakwood Cemetery.
