Erwin H. Klug's Obituary
Mr. Erwin Klug, age 85, died Saturday morning, October 23, 2004, at his home. He was born June 3, 1919 to Henry & Matie (Hintz) Klug in East Lake, Michigan; and then as a toddler moved to the Muskegon area where he has since resided. Erwin enlisted in the U.S. Army and served during WWII, where he was awarded the Purple Heart. He had been employed at Sanitary and Farr View Dairies; and then, in 1976, he retired from McDonald Dairy where he had been employed 28 years as a sales and delivery man. Erwin was a life-long member of Trinity Lutheran Church where he had served as Trustee, Officer and member of the Men’s Club, for which he caught, filleted and froze thousands of perch for the church’s many fish fry’s. He was also a member of Local # 637. Erwin was affectionately known as “Slugger Klug” when he played Class-A softball during the 1940’s; and in 1941 when he played on the State Championship Team. He was also involved in area baseball, was an avid fisherman and enjoyed gardening. Erwin was a square dancer through the City Recreation League and enjoyed traveling, with his wife, through the 48 states in their motor home. On September 14, 1940, he married the former Norma-Rae Ames and she survives him along with their daughter, Barbara Rudick of Spring Lake; son, Stephen Klug of Muskegon and daughter-in-law, Charlotte Love Klug of Muskegon, MI; 15 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; 1 sister, Doris Lager of Muskegon; 3 sisters-in-law, Alice Klug, Viola Klug and Anita Klug all of Muskegon and by many nieces, nephews and friends. Erwin was preceded in death by his son, Robert; son-in-law, Richard Rudick and by 6 brothers and 3 sisters. SERVICES will be 11 AM Tuesday, October 26, 2004 at Trinity Lutheran Church (3225 Roosevelt Rd) with Pastor Dennis Lassanske officiating. Burial will be in Sunrise Memorial Gardens. VISITATION will be 2-4 & 6-8PM Monday at Sytsema Funeral Homes, Inc., 737 Apple Avenue, Muskegon, MI 49442 (231-7826-5210).
