Estelle Rantanen's Obituary
Estelle Rantanen, age 81, of Calumet passed away Monday, November 18, 2019. She was born September 7, 1938 in Calumet, MI to Edward and Margaret (Tiara) Johnson.
Estelle was a dedicated mother first and foremost. She treasured her children and embraced every moment with them. She especially loved her role as Grandma and Auntie and spending time with family and friends. She had a vivacious personality and always made people around her laugh.
One of Estelle’s many gifts was her amazing ability to play music by ear. She could play hymns and old songs on the organ for hours without a sheet of music in front of her. She enjoyed bowling and was in a league up until her 80’s. She was also a talented crocheter.
She is survived by three children: Coreen (Rantanen) Gatchel of Muskegon, Terri Rantanen of Rockford, and Eric (Amanda) Rantanen of Spring Lake; 10 grandchildren, plus 17 great-grandchildren. All of these she loved deeply. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Carl Johnson; sisters, Lois Monville and Luella Palonen; and the father of her children, Clifford Rantanen.
A 2:00 PM memorial service will be held on December 8, 2019 at the Pathway Wesleyan Church, 4960 Portland Road, Saranac, MI 48881. A spring interment will take place in Lakeview Cemetery, Calumet. Please sign the family’s online guestbook at www.sytsemafh.com.
