Esther Cole's Obituary
Esther M. Cole, 96, passed away Thursday, July 28, at her home. She was the oldest of seven children born to Sidney and Edith Madole in Tustin, Michigan. She married David E. Cole in 1944 in Hattisburg, Mississippi. Mr. Cole passed away in 1963.
Mrs. Cole, who was a years-long member of the United Methodist Church, was a member of The Church of the Dunes, Grand Haven, at the time of her death. Over decades, she was active in United Methodist Women, taught Sunday School, and was a representative to United Methodist women’s conferences. She read to school children at Lake Hills Elementary School and worked with children through the Tri-Cities Historical Museum and the Grand Haven Senior Center (now Four Pointes).
She enjoyed crocheting, doing crossword puzzles, playing Scrabble, playing bingo, and spending time with family and friends. She was an avid Detroit Tigers and Michigan State Spartans fan.
Mrs. Cole is survived by five of her six children: Sandra Pierson of Sonora, California; David (Cindy) Cole of Libby, Montana; Linda Bengston of Spring Lake, Carol (David) Boulter of Otsego, and Richard (Gay) Cole of Spring Lake. She is also survived by sister Joyce (Ken) Cooley of Cadillac, 10 grandchildren, several great- and great-great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Cole was preceded in death by her son William Cole; grandson David Boyd; sisters Julia Wood, Evelyn Allen, and Amelia Mahlich and brothers Alton Madole and Robert Madole.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, August 2, at 11 a.m. at United Methodist Church of the Dunes. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. that day.
