Esther and Dick were our next door neighbors in Grand Haven many years ago. They welcomed us to the neighborhood and were always so friendly. I remember one time our youngest son had come home from middle school and realizing he had forgot his viola at the bus stop, went over to see Esther and Dick in a panic telling them that mom and dad were going to “kill him”. Well, Esther and Dick calmed him down and drove him back to the bus stop and there it was. They recanted this story many times to us over the years telling us how cute our son had acted, but it was really about them. Their kindness to rescue a young person in need was a memory I will always cherish.
