Esther L. Cook's Obituary
Esther L. Cook, age 79, passed away Sunday morning, January 10, 2016, at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born May 23, 1936 to John W. and Emma (Durga) Brown in Traverse City, where she resided until moving to the Muskegon area in 1956. Esther had worked as an admitting clerk at Mercy Hospital from 1975 until 2000. On June 29, 1956, Esther married Thomas A. Cook and he preceded her in death on July 25, 2013. Since her retirement, Esther’s life revolved around her grandchildren and great-grandchildren’s lives. She volunteered in the concession stand for Sailor Soccer and also loved her time volunteering in the gift shop of the General Campus of Mercy Hospital. SURVIVORS include her 4 children, Nancy (Brian) Glendening, Tim (Toni) Cook, Karen (Regan Lundquist) Vanderstelt and Dan Cook; grandchildren, Kelly (Rick) Zambon, Lisa (Keith Hawkins) Andersen, Tim (Brianna) Andersen, Jera (Brett) Gilbert, Kristi (Nikki Gray) Cook, Tommy Cook, Amy Vanderstelt and Mark Vanderstelt; great-grandchildren, Trevor and Annie Zambon, Lauren, Ashley and Andrew Davis, Laney O’Rourke, Beau Andersen, Zain Zatalokin and Marlowe Gilbert, born December 16, 2015; step-grandchildren, Laura (Mike Bartlett) Glendening and Miles (Loganne Boersema) Glendening; and brother, Lloyd Brown. She was preceded in death by her husband, Tom; great-grandson, Carson Vanderstelt, her parents; a brother, Frederick Brown, and sister, Evelyn Kruger. The FUNERAL SERVICE for Esther will be held 11:00 AM Wednesday, January 13, 2016 at The Lee Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 6291 S. Harvey St., (231) 798-1100, with the Rev. Gerald Hagans officiating. VISITATION will be 5-8:00 PM Tuesday. Burial will be in Norton Cemetery. For a more lasting memorial, you are asked to consider Harbor Hospice.
