Esther H. Shamel's Obituary
Mrs. Esther Helen Shamel, age 87, was promoted to Glory early Friday morning, January 19, 2007 at an assisted living center in Muskegon. She was born in Muskegon on September 11, 1919 to Marcus and Helen M. (Ravneng) Horness. Mrs. Shamel lived in Muskegon until 1970, she then moved to Arizona where she lived for 30 years before moving back to Twin Lake in 1999. She was a member of Central Assembly of God where she had also been employed as the church secretary. Prior to working at church, she had owned East End Hardware. Esther was a talented musician. She played vibraharp, piano and organ. She served as a church pianist and organist in Muskegon and also in Arizona. She was also an avid seamstress and painter, especially enjoying oils and watercolors. Esther married John D. Shamel and after 59 years of marriage, he preceded her in death on November 29, 1999. She is SURVIVED by 2 sons, Richard (Lynda) Shamel and Michael Shamel, both of CA; 3 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; 1 brother, Marcus (Joyce) Horness, Jr.; 2 sisters, Florence (Herbert) Meppelink of Springfield, MO, Ruth (Mark) Johnson of Whitehall; 1 foster brother, Stanley (Nell) Frey of TX; 2 foster sisters, Georgianna (Russ) Ritter of Hudsonville, Juanita (Ray) Mann of OH; and 1 sister-in-law, Lois Horness Davis of CA. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and 3 brothers, James, Bernard and Eugene Horness. SERVICES will be 11AM Wednesday at Central Assembly of God with Dr. Gordon Aikin officiating. VISITATION will be 6-8PM Tuesday at

and one hour prior to the service at church on Wednesday. INTERMENT will be in Lakeside Cemetery. MEMORIALS in Mrs. Shamel’s name may be made to the Central Assembly of God Building Fund.
