Esther K. Schuur's Obituary
Mrs. Esther K. Schuur, age 98, passed away Wednesday morning, August 6, 2008, in Grand Rapids. She was born April 6, 1910 in Muskegon to Frank & Mattie (Flickema) Oosting, and had resided in the area most of her life. Esther had been an admissions supervisor at Hackley Hospital for 20 years and had previously worked at Kindy Optical Co. Following her retirement, Esther found time to enjoy crocheting while she volunteered at Hackley Library, Koinonia and mentored at local schools. Esther was a member of Mona Shores Baptist Church and had previously directed the choir at East Muskegon Christian Reformed Church and at Muskegon Heights Baptist Church where she had also been a Sunday school teacher, youth group leader and Bible study leader. On May 25, 1937 she married Clarence W. Schuur and he preceded her in death on February 17, 1973. She was also preceded in death by 2 brothers, Robert and Alvin Oosting. SURVIVORS include 2 children, Mary Anne (George) Schuur-Mavrodes of Ann Arbor, MI and David (Betty) Schuur of Flat Rock, IL; 4 grandchildren, Kenneth (Mako) Schuur of Okinawa, Japan, Beth Schuur of Chicago, David (Missy) Schuur of Minneapolis, MN, Gregory Schuur of Ann Arbor and by 3 great-grandchildren. SERVICES will be 11 AM Saturday, August 9, 2008, at Mona Shores Baptist Church with Pastor Thomas Siefert officiating. Burial will be in Washington Park Cemetery, Grand Rapids, MI. VISITATION with Esther’s family will be 2-4 & 6-8PM Friday at The Sytsema Chapel of Sytsema Funeral Homes, Inc.,
