Esther "Marie" Smith's Obituary
Mrs. Esther “Marie” Smith, age 82, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, February 16, 2009. She was born February 20, 1926 in Muskegon to Isaac and Ellen (Johnson) Erickson and lived in the area her entire life. On December 21, 1946, she married Harold Hesse in Muskegon. Later, she married Leonard Smith on July 15, 1987 and he preceded her in death on May 4, 2003. She worked as a cashier for Barnes Grocery for 11 years. Marie was a life member of the ladies auxiliary at VFW Post #7729 where she was a regular bingo player. She had many friends and was known as “Grandma Re” to her beloved grandchildren with whom she enjoyed spending time and sharing interesting stories about her life. She loved her grandchildren very much. Marie also loved the Lord, Jesus Christ and trusted God for her salvation. Her family wishes to thank everyone for their prayers and concerns for Marie. In keeping with Marie’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a private family service will be held at a later date. SURVIVORS include 3 children, Diana (Leonard) Stark; Charles (Jackie) Hesse, Robert (Linda) Hesse; 11 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren; 2 brothers, Robert Erickson and Samuel (Barb) Erickson; and 2 sisters, Lavern (Laverne) Hawkins and Elaine Pike. Besides her husband, Marie was preceded in death by her parents, and 2 brothers, Walter and Raymond Erickson and 1 sister, Eleanor Belgardt. Arrangements handled by
