Ethel Florence (Champine) Evanauski's Obituary
Mrs. Ethel F. (Champine) Evanauski, age 96 passed away on Good Friday, April 10, 2009 at home surrounded by family following a brief illness. Ethel was born in Detroit on May 16, 1912 to Max and Norah (Higgins) Kopietz. She married Mr. Sidney J. Champine in 1928 and moved to Muskegon in 1942 where they resided until moving to California in 1968. Mr. Champine preceded her in death in 1969. Ethel returned to Muskegon in 1992 and married John Evanauski on August 22, 1993. Mr. Evanauski preceded her in death on March 2, 1996. In earlier years, Ethel was employed as an assistant buyer at Grossman’s Department Store. She was a member of the Eastern Star, enjoyed playing games, a good game of cards, dogs and her family. She is survived by: five children, Jean (Jack) Kirby of Muskegon, Glen (June) Champine of Shelby, MI, Carol (Jack) Vanderstelt of Modesto, CA, Jerry (Donna) Champine of Dexter, MI and Linda Champine of Bruny Island, Tasmania, Australia; 22 grandchildren and many great and great-great grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her: brother, Frank; sister, Norah and grandson, Dana Funnell. A memorial service for Mrs. Evanauski will be held at: The Lee Chapel, Sytsema Funeral Homes, Inc. 6291 S. Harvey St. 231-798-1100, 11:00 A.M., Friday, April 17, 2009, Rev. David Selleck officiating. The family will begin greeting friends, one hour prior to the service. Memorial Contributions: Harbor Hospice.
