Eugene R. Anderson's Obituary
Mr. Eugene Roger Anderson, age 89, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 30, 2019 in Grand Haven. He was born on January 25, 1930 to Arthur and Jenny (Mead) Anderson in Tustin, MI. Eugene received a Purple Heart while serving his country during the Korean War in the Army. On June 6, 1953 he married the former Mary J. DeVries in Dighton, MI and she survives him. Eugene and Mary moved to Muskegon where Eugene worked at SD Warren Paper Mill for 40 years before retiring in February of 1992. After retirement, Eugene and Mary liked to spend their winters in Florida and summers at the trailer by Middle Branch River. They enjoyed traveling and were members of Immanuel Lutheran Church. Eugene was a lifelong member of V.F.W. Post 7729 and was a past Commander. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, archery and bowling. Eugene will be missed by his wife of 64 years, Mary; son, Joe Anderson; daughter-in-law, Kari Anderson; grandsons, Steven William Anderson and Scott Joseph (Lauren) Anderson; great-grandchildren, Amaya, Malia, Spencer and Chase; brothers, Lyle, David (Jean) and Richard (Char); sisters-in-law, Pauline Anderson and Judy DeVries; and a host of extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, son, Steven E. Anderson; daughter-in-law, Teresa Anderson; sister, Doris Doctor; brothers, Kenneth (Angie), Carson, Martin and Leonard; brother-in-law, Eddie DeVries, and faithful feline friend, Willie. A Graveside Service with Military Honors will be held on Monday, April 8 at 1PM at Egelston Twp. Cemetery, with a luncheon for family and friends following at V.F.W. Post 7729.
