Eugene "Gene" Johnson's Obituary
Mr. Eugene “Gene” Johnson, age 93, of Fruitport passed away Tuesday, May 7, 2019 at home. He was born November 14, 1925 in Fruitport to Albert and Josephine (Berghorn) Johnson. On February 27, 1948 he married Betty Wellman and she preceded him in death on November 9, 2018.
Gene was always very active, he loved to bowl, and spend time working on his family farm with his family, raising all kinds of animals. He retired from Sam Garvin. He will be greatly missed by all.
He is survived by four children: Judy Johnson of Grand Haven, Lois (Joe) Johnson-Watts, Denny (Rhonda) Johnson, Jr. of Fruitport and Richard (Jenny) Johnson of Fruitport; eleven grandchildren; twenty-eight great-grandchildren, four great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son, Edward Johnson; daughter, Josy Augustson; great-grandson, Damion Bromley.
Funeral Service will be 11:00 AM Tuesday, May 14, 2019 at The VanZantwick Chapel (620 Washington Ave) with Pastor Jeff Elzinga officiating. Visitation will be 6-8 PM Monday, May 13, 2019 at the funeral home. Interment will take place in Spring Lake Township Cemetery.
