Eugene P. Macario's Obituary
Eugene P. “Pete” Macario, age 93, passed away Friday, May 10, 2024. He was born July 3, 1930 in Cadillac, MI to Peter and Stephanie (Brulla) Macario. Eugene served his country as a U.S. Army drill sergeant during the Korean War. He worked for Brunswick Corporation for 43 years until his retirement in 1995. Eugene loved his Detroit Tigers. He met his wife, Libby, at a baseball game. They married on April 23, 1955 in St. Joseph Catholic Church. He ushered at St. Joseph Catholic Church prior to it being torn down. More recently he was a member of St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church in Muskegon. He had served as a Boy Scout leader. He loved spending time with family, gardening, and attending Whitecaps baseball games. He also enjoyed playing cribbage with their friends. Eugene will be missed by many. SURVIVORS include his wife of 69 years, Libby; three children: Gene S. (Maria) Macario, Rhonda (Harold) Miller, and Regina (Mark) Deater; three grandchildren: Angela (Peter) Niarhos, Vincent (Nichelle) Bennett, and Jennette (Joshua) Serio; and 11 great-grandchildren. Eugene was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Barb Smith. THE MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL will take place 11:00 AM Thursday, May 16, 2024 at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church with the Rev. Fr. Steve Geerling presiding. VISITATION with the family will be from 1-3 PM on Wednesday, May 15, 2024 at The Walburn Chapel of Sytsema Funeral and Cremation Services, 1547 W. Sherman Blvd., Muskegon, MI 49441 (231) 759-8565 with the ROSARY being prayed at 3 PM. Eugene will be laid to rest at the Fort Custer National Cemetery in Augusta, MI.
