Eugene D. Paulson's Obituary
Mr. Eugene D. Paulson, age 73, passed away Thursday morning, October 9, 2008, following a long illness. Gene was born in Muskegon on October 6, 1935 to Donald and Edith (Parker) Paulson. He was a graduate of Muskegon Heights H.S., class of 1953. He was also a graduate of Muskegon Community College and Western Michigan University where he received his Bachelor of Science and Master Degree. Mr. Paulson was a former principal of Hile Elementary and Junior High School. He married the former Florence M. Kleyn in Muskegon on April 13, 1963. In 1966 Mr. Paulson became the Director of the Muskegon Regional Center of Western Michigan University until retiring in 1991. In 1991 Mr. Paulson was honored as a nominee for the Western Michigan University Distinguished Service Award. Gene was a former member of the Port City Beagle Club, past president of the Mona Shores Kiwanis, a Big Brother and a member of the National University Extension Association. He is survived by his wife, Florence of Norton Shores; four children, Lynn (Jon) Anderson of N. Muskegon, Lisa (Chuck) Pelfresne of Norton Shores, Mark (Lori) Paulson of White Lake, MI and Pat Miller of Muskegon; five grandchildren, Adrian, Lauryn, Steven, Matthew and Nicole; step-father, John Meyers of Muskegon and brother, Tim (Debby) Paulson of Fruitport. A memorial service will be held at: The Lee Chapel, Sytsema Funeral Homes, Inc. 6291 S. Harvey St. 231-798-1100 Monday at 11:00 A.M., Rev. Russell Camp officiating. Visitation with family will be Sunday evening, 6-8 P.M. at The Lee Chapel. Memorial to Loaves and Fishes Pantry.
