Mrs. Evelyn A. Adkins' Obituary
Mrs. Evelyn A. “Evie” Adkins, age 91, passed away early Thursday morning, September 19, 2013. She was born April 2, 1922 in Pellston, MI to Ferris and Carolina (Bevins) Wilbern. Mrs. Adkins was an LPN at the Osteopath Hospital in Dr. Butler and Dr. Brubaker’s offices. She served the community as a nurse for over 30 years before retiring July 1, 1973. After her retirement she helped her husband run Jesse’s Used Cars and snowplowing business. Mrs. Adkins was a member of the Licensed Practical Nurses Association and the Church of God United. When she wasn’t working, she enjoyed their cottage on Wolf Lake in Baldwin and was an avid Cribbage and Pedro player. On December 28, 1938 she married Jesse E. Adkins, Sr. in Muskegon and he preceded her in death on June 10, 1992. SURVIVORS include her son, Jack (Colleen) Adkins; 8 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; daughters-in-law, Patricia (Herm) Timmer, Terri Pieczynski; sister, Betty (Orville) Osborn; sister-in-law, Iris Roland; brother-in-law, Claude Adkins; many nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by 2 sons, Jesse E. Adkins, Jr. and Paul Adkins; 2 brothers, Edward and Howard Wilbern; 5 sisters, Hanifried Wilbern, Mildred Chapman, Eva Nordwall, Pearl Nordwall, and Lula Willea. SERVICES will be 1:00 PM Monday at the Church of God United, 1630 Harvey St., with Pastor Lynnette Gillett officiating. VISITATION with the family will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will take place in Sunrise Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the American Cancer Society.
