As a little girl, I remember running through the breezeway and up the stairs into the kitchen, to get my huge hug from amazing Aunt Laura when we’d finally arrive. Her big smile, shining eyes, and strong voice always made me feel so at home and welcomed. Industrious Uncle Stan would grab my chubby cheeks with his super strong hands and say “You little animal!” before giving me a big hug and telling me to get down to the river ‘cause everybody was already there.
I was always amazed by Aunt Laura’s cooking abilities, supported by Uncle Stan’s impressive garden. They inspired me to learn to cook from scratch and can jams from my own garden.
She was a strong, optimistic, no nonsense, devout, and warm hearted aunt, godmother and role model for me. She and Uncle Stan made a loving and stable home for us to come home to, again and again. They allowed us to share in the joy of a big family of their awesome six kids and grandkids. Saying grace before our meals at a table packed with kids was a favorite memory. And of course “Robert Redford” for dessert!!
