Evert W. Buckner's Obituary
Evert W. Buckner, age 90, passed away Sunday, February 6, 2022 surrounded by his loving family. He was born June 17, 1931 in Kaleva, MI to Ward and Josephine (Vacek) Buckner and lived most of his life in the Muskegon area. He married Joan F. Bytwerk in Muskegon and she preceded him in death in 2008. Evert owned and operated the E&A Grocery Store on Wolf Lake Rd and Apple Ave from 1979-1996 when he sold the business to his son, but continued working until age 88. Evert served on the Oakridge School Board for many years and was a past president of the board. He was also on the Egelston Township Board where he served on the Planning Commission. Evert was active for many years with the Old News Boys and the Muskegon Eastside Lion’s Club. Survivors include 6 children, Carolyn (Dan) Boisvert, Deb (Tom) Taylor, Roger Buckner, Andy (Teri) Buckner, Sherry (John) Wierenga, Shirley (Rob) Martz; 23 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren; and 2 brothers, Elroy (Linda) Buckner and Dennis “Butch” Buckner. He was also preceded in death by his daughter, Rhonda Buckner, his parents, 1 sister, Virginia King and 2 brothers, Duane Buckner and Robert Buckner. A Funeral Service will be held 2:00 PM Friday, February 11, 2022 at The Lee Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 6291 Harvey St, Norton Shores, MI 49444 where visitation will take place one hour prior to the service.
