Exlee Charles' Obituary
Exlee Charles, age 78, passed away Sunday, October 16, 2022 at her home. She was born November 8, 1943 in Cairo, IL to Fred and Essiemae (Evans) Charles. She worked as a counselor for the Michigan Department of Corrections – Brooks Correctional Facility for 28 years and retired. She later worked 12 years as a substitute teacher for Muskegon Public Schools. Exlee was a member of Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church. Survivors include 2 children, Robert (Jamille) Charles, Bonita Charles; 9 grandchildren, Shantele Charles, Chevela Charles, Sherrill Henton, Darius Merritt, Dante Merritt, Shauntrice Charles, Shayla Charles, Alexander Robinson, Aleasa Robinson; 9 great-grandchildren; 2 brothers, Alvin Charles, Fred Charles; 3 sisters, Felicia Evans, Aljean Gray, Georgia Stephens; niece, Fontrise Charles; special cousin, Credall Rowell; special friends, Alberta Barnes and Hattie Gray. She was preceded in death by her parents, 2 brothers, Edward Charles, Don Charles; and 3 sisters, Leathel Hughes, Shirley Jean Charles and Dorothy Williams. A Funeral Service will be held 11:00 AM Friday, October 28, 2022 at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church (1964 Russell Road, North Muskegon) with Rev. Ben Harris officiating. Horse-drawn Carriage procession will follow to Sunrise Memorial Gardens for Graveside Services. Visitation will be held 5-8 PM Thursday at The Sytsema Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 737 Apple Ave, Muskegon, MI 49442. Visitation will also be held one hour prior to the service on Friday at the church. Memorial Contributions may be directed to Western Michigan Adult & Teen Challenge or Muskegon Rescue Mission.
