Fern M. McCollum's Obituary
Mrs. Fern M. McCollum, age 93, passed away Saturday evening, July 4, 2015. She was born January 29, 1922 in Duluth, Minnesota to Henry and Bessie (LaBeau) Peters. On March 1, 1939 she married James L. McCollum, Sr. in Muskegon and he preceded her in death on December 27, 1979. Fern had worked as a waitress in the Muskegon area for many years before retiring and was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. She enjoyed going to flea markets and yard sales, hanging her laundry out to dry, and reading. SURVIVORS include 2 sons: Henry “Hank” (Helen) McCollum, William (Kathy) McCollum both of Muskegon; daughter, Dixie Sedgley of Muskegon; 17 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; 15 great-great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, James Wood; and many nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by a son, James L. McCollum, Jr.; daughters: Patricia Miller and Cherie McCollum; sons-in-law, David Sedgley and Robert Miller; brothers: Robert, Richard, Henry, and James Peters; sisters: Iris Wood, Jeanette Johnson, and Alta Peters. THE MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL will be held 11:00 AM Friday, July 10, 2015 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with the Rev. Fr. Antony Britto presiding. Burial will take place in Mona View Cemetery. VISITATION with the family will be from 6-8 PM Thursday, July 9, 2015 at The Lee Chapel, 6291 S. Harvey St., (231) 798-1100, with the Rosary prayed at 6:00 PM.
