Floella M. Bates' Obituary
Floella M. Bates, age 94, passed away Friday, December 18, 2020. She was born July 28, 1926 in Muskegon to George and Ethel (Freese) Glore. On October 7, 1943, she married Versle “Bud” Bates and he preceded her in death on April 28, 2001. Floella was a beautician and owned and operated her own beauty shop for 40 years. She was a member of the National Hairdresser’s Association, past President of the Muskegon Hairdresser’s Affiliate #204, was part of the Michigan Hair Fashion Committee, and was one of the first inductees of the Michigan Cosmetology Hall of Fame. She was a member First Evangelical Lutheran Church. SURVIVORS include her son, James A. (Juanita) Bates of Corpus Christi, Texas; daughter-in-law, Joan Bates of Muskegon; 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; brother, Paul (Clara) Glore of Muskegon; sister, Linda (Lonnie) Mears of Muskegon; and many nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by a son, Daniel R. Bates on November 24, 2020; brother, Robert Glore; and 2 sisters: Irene Kurtzhals and Rosemary McCormick. Private family services will be held for Floella. In lieu of flowers, donations to the American Heart Association will be appreciated. Inurnment will take place in Sunrise Memorial Gardens.
