Mrs. Flored L. Fiebelkorn's Obituary
Mrs. Flored Louise Fiebelkorn, 92, went to join her Lord Monday afternoon, July 28, 2014. Born June 17, 1922 in Detroit to Henry and Louise (Zirbel) Maas, she married Glenn Henry Fiebelkorn who died August 3, 1988.
Her SURVIVORS include a son, Glenn (Suzanne) Fiebelkorn of Twin Lake; daughter-in-law, Alice Fiebelkorn of Rochester, MI; and three grandchildren: Kevin, Daniel (Jennifer), and Christopher. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a son, John Michael Fiebelkorn; brothers Harold, Ivan, Albert “Bud”, and Donald; and sisters Ruth Goodyear and Mary “Pearl” Bowling.
Flored was a homemaker, loved to write, attempted golf, was a recreational bowler, and loved to keep in touch with friends through phone conversations. She had a deeply personal and close relationship with her Lord, praying often for Him to keep her family safe, and for relief from her suffering here on earth.
She was thrifty, yet generous. She came from a family with many children, and the family was very poor. She was intent to not have that same enviroment and financial stress for her own family, and therefore was very thoughtful with her invenstments and spending. Flored did not graduate High School but saw the value of education, and did not complain whatsoever for the cost of college educations for her sons...they had to get it done in four years though...no lollygagging.
She was kind, yet stern. There were chores the children needed to perform before play time. There were curfews that had no flexibility. She made the efforts to transport the kids and their friends to wherever their extracurricular interests resided.
She was independent, yet loved socialization. After her husband passed there was never much doubt that she would not remarry. She continued to manage the family home independently until she was 85 years old. She spent a lot of time on the phone during that period of time. This may have frustrated some of her friends and family as the conversation (usually mostly one-sided by her) could last a long time, but she remembered the little details of conversations--the he said and she said quotes. She really was interested in the minute details of other peoples' lives. Later in her own life, she may have had trouble remembering a name, but she could still remember many little details about the person she was conversing with.
For many years she was a caregiver to the elderly members of her family. She could be their chauffeur, social person, or provide for their basic needs, and was happy to do what she could..
Flored spent the last 7 years of her life supported by the quality staff at the Sanctuary of the Oaks Assisted Living Facility. Her family thanks them for their efforts with making her welcome in her move to Muskegon from the east side of the state.
Her family loved her and they know she finally made it up to her Lord who she was very close to, even though they wonder why he waited so long to take her. They hope it was for the purpose of making an extra special place for her in Heaven.
