Florence Pauline Neumann's Obituary
Florence Pauline Neumann, 94, of Grand Haven, Michigan, passed away peacefully on the evening of June 1, 2016, surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Grand Haven, Michigan, on September 12, 1921, she was the daughter of Eric and Elizabeth (Majerius) Seaberg, and the oldest of six children. Florence married Alfred “Fritz” Neumann on February 27, 1943, and together, they had one daughter named Christine. In the 1960’s, Florence tried her hand at the restaurant business as owner/cook of The Colonial Kitchen in downtown Grand Haven. After five years, she sold the restaurant to her sister, Margaret, and settled down to work as a dedicated secretary at Gardner and Denver (Grand Haven) and retired in 1983. Florence kept herself busy by working the night shift at Christian Haven Home, attending to anyone who needed a helping hand, and being the best sister, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend anyone could ask for. In addition to that, she went back to school to earn her GED! In her “spare” time, Florence enjoyed piano classes, ceramics, and shopping. Serving with the Ladies Aide as a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church was an important part of Florence’s life for many years as well.
She will be remembered fondly by everyone who knew her as a kind, genuine, Christian woman who went by nicknames like “Flo”, “Grandma Flo” and “Flo-ski”. She loved to play jokes on people, host holiday parties, and make her grandchildren feel special. She will be greatly missed by the countless people whose lives she touched.
Florence is survived by her daughter, Chris (Tom) Vissers; grandchildren: Cheryl (Les) Ankersen, Lori (Jeremey) Wilder, Tricia (Dan) Wisniewski, Tracy (Eric) Walle, Carol (Zac) Hubbard, John Vissers, Emmalie Vissers, and Rachel Vissers; her great-grandchildren: Josh, Eric, Sam and Elizabeth Ankersen; Lucas (Hannah) Wilder; Madison, Morgan and Cecilia Wilder; Sydney, Reilly, and Carter Wisniewski; Owen Walle; Mackenzie, Maggie, Delanney, and Deliliah Hubbard; siblings: Carol Robbins and Peter (Patricia) Seaberg; and many nieces and nephews.
Florence was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred “Fritz” Neumann; her parents, Eric and Elizabeth Seaberg; her sister, Margaret Angell; her brother, Bob Seaberg; and her sister, Helen Angell. She has gone now to join them in the peacefulness of Heaven.
Funeral services will be 12:00 PM Monday, June 6, 2016 at St. John’s Lutheran Church with Rev. Ronald Moritz officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at church. Interment will take place in Lake Forest Cemetery. Memorial contributions in memory of Florence may be given to Hospice of North Ottawa Community or Robbinswood Assisted Living Community.
