Frances Marie Rostar's Obituary
Mrs. Frances Marie Rostar, age 93, passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday, September 16, 2023 with her daughters by her side. She was born in Jefferson County, Mississippi on November 11, 1929 to Jewell and Kittye “Clyde” (Bellew) Alderson. In 1973, Frances married George Rostar Jr. and they enjoyed 50 years of marriage before his passing earlier this year. Frances was a member of Grace Christian Reformed Church where she was active with the prayer chain. Frances spent 25 years working as a respected waitress at Bill Stern’s Steakhouse and Tony’s Restaurant. She then worked at Johnson Technologies for 20 years prior to her retirement. Frances exemplified southern hospitality throughout her entire life. One of her favorite things to do was cook large meals and holiday feasts where she would prepare each person’s favorite dish. Biscuits and cornbread were a staple at every meal. She was known for her southern fried chicken, homemade vegetable soup, and homegrown, homemade blackberry jelly. She also enjoyed crocheting and quilting. Most importantly, Frances always put her family first. She is survived by her daughters, Kittye Harman and Becky (Ernie) Johnston, five grandchildren, Darren Wesley, Todd Wesley, Chad (Michelle) Wesley, Keith (Sheila) Johnston, and Kerry (Jeff) Westveld; and 13 great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, George Rostar Jr., Frances was preceded in death by her parents; son-in-law, Bill Harman; brothers, JW “Bud” Alderson and Robert Alderson; and sister-in-law, Jane Alderson. FUNERAL SERVICES will be 11:00 AM Wednesday, September 20, 2023 at The Lee Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 6291 Harvey St., Norton Shores, MI 49444 with Rev. Aaron Spratling officiating. VISITATION with her family will be held one hour prior to her service. Burial will take place in Egelston Township Cemetery.
