Mrs. Frances Marie Smith's Obituary
Mrs. Frances Marie Smith, age 83, passed away Saturday, April 13, 2013 in Muskegon. She was born April 29, 1929 in Muskegon to John and Lilian (Nelson) Schaalma and was a life resident. On October 23, 1948, she married Gene Howard Smith, Sr. in Muskegon and he survives her. Frances was a telephone operator before marriage and then worked as a bookkeeper for Port City Tire and then Smith Tire and retired in 1989. She was a member of Calvin Christian Reformed Church and the Greater Muskegon Women’s Club. She enjoyed her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Frances also enjoyed ceramics, camping, square dancing, and traveling in their motor home. SURVIVORS include her husband, Gene Smith, Sr.; 3 children, Margaret Ann “Margo” (Richard) Harley of Pennsylvania, Matthew (Diana) Smith of Muskegon, Gene Howard (Lisa) Smith, Jr. of Grand Haven; 4 grandchildren, Ken (Kathryn) Patterson, Keith (Tara) Patterson, Michael (Teresa) Smith, Diana (Ryan) Beckley, and 10 great-grandchildren; 1 sister, Dorothy Kelling of Grand Rapids; 1 sister-in-law, Anna Shock; 1 brother-in-law, Fredrick Smith, Sr.; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by 1 grandson, Richard Harley II, her parents, 1 brother, Jack Schaalma and 1 sister, Gladys Sischo. A MEMORIAL SERVICE will be held 11:00 AM Tuesday, April 16, 2013 at Calvin Christian Reformed Church (973 W. Norton Ave.) with Pastor John Rob officiating.
