Francis "Frank" George Gawron's Obituary
Francis “Frank” George Gawron, age 90, passed away Tuesday, July 3, 2018 at the Harbor Hospice Poppen Residence. He was born April 30, 1928 in Muskegon to John and Mary (Olech) Gawron and lived his entire life in the area. On October 16, 1954, he married the former Margaret Mary DeMarse in Muskegon. Frank had worked at Dresser Industries, GTE, Consumers Power, and Walt Plant Appliance. He spent 30 years working as an insurance agent for Allstate and retired in 1989. Frank was a member of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church where he served as a lector, usher, CCD teacher, communion distributor, served on many committees and sang in the choir. He was also a member of Knights of Columbus Council 706 where he had been Past Grand Knight. Frank was the past president of Catholic Young Adults and Catholic Young Couples. Frank was the past president of the Muskegon Serra Club, past president of the board for Sunset Riders 4H Club. Frank was also integral in the Muskegon Life Underwriters. Frank enjoyed golfing, walking, hiking, bowling and camping with his kids. SURVIVORS include his wife, Margaret Gawron of Muskegon; 7 children, Gregory (Doreen) Gawron of Louisville, KY, Paul Gawron of Oak Island, NC, Michael (Deb) Gawron of North Muskegon, Colleen Harpe of Garland, TX, Bernadette Gawron of Jacksonville, FL, Deborah (Kirk) Grimshaw of Montague, MI, Karen (William) Larson of Twin Lake, MI; 1 son-in-law, Steven Rahrig of South Haven, MI; 15 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; 1 step-grandchild; and special family friends, Jerry and Elizabeth Powell and their 2 daughters. Frank was preceded in death by 1 son, Mark Joseph Gawron; 1 daughter, Annette Marie Rahrig; his parents; 5 brothers, Joseph John, Julian, Henry and Stanley Gawron; and 2 sisters, Helen Gawron and Angela Opelek. MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL will be celebrated 11:00 AM Tuesday, July 10, 2018 at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church (2929 McCracken St.) with Rev. Fr. Julian Reginato presiding. INTERMENT will take place at St. Mary’s Cemetery. VISITATION will be held 5-7 PM Monday at The Lee Chapel, 6291 S. Harvey St., (231) 798-1100 with the Scriptural Rosary prayed at 6:30 PM Monday. Visitation will also be held one hour prior to the Mass, 10-11 AM Tuesday at the church. Memorial Contributions may be directed to St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church Completing the Vision Fund, Harbor Hospice Foundation or the Muskegon Catholic Education Foundation.
