Francis Lavern Cavanaugh's Obituary
Mr. Francis L. “Lavern” Cavanaugh, age 75, passed away early Friday morning, February 6, 2009 in Muskegon. He was born November 27, 1933 to William and Agnes (Brown) Cavanaugh in Fremont, and lived most of his life in the Muskegon area. Mr. Cavanaugh spent many years in the retail business working at Zodys, Yankees, Arnold Drugs, and Plumbs Foods. He also worked at Cordova Chemical, and Parkwood Apartments before retiring. Baseball was also an important part of his life, coaching Little League, and starting the Pony League program in the Oakridge and Ravenna areas. On July 17, 1954 Lavern married Carol J. Schnipke, and she survives him along with 4 sons, Fran (Ginger) Cavanaugh of Plano, TX, Greg (Sue) Cavanaugh of Fruitport, Den (Susan) Cavanaugh of Greenville, SC, Bob (Kellie) Cavanaugh of Muskegon; 14 grandchildren, Frances Marie, Alisha, Brittanny, Courtney (Dan), Lindsey, Jeni, Sara (Cris), Justin, Megan, Stacey, Shelley, Carlee, Brett, and Ali; 3 great-grandchildren, Chloe, Carson and Chloe; 2 sisters, Betty (Marvin ) Erb of Grant, Ruth Sparrow of Muskegon. He was preceded in death by 5 sisters and 1 brother. SERVICES will be 11:00 AM Monday at The Sytsema Chapel, Sytsema Funeral Homes, Inc. 737 Apple Ave. (231) 726-5210 with Pastor John H. Brown officiating. Burial will take place at Egelston Township Cemetery. Visitation at the funeral home will be 1 hour prior to the service.
