Frank "Al" Herrick's Obituary
Frank “Al” Herrick, age 71, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday morning, May 28, 2019. He was born June 8, 1947 in Durand, MI to Frank and Bertha (Shriver) Herrick. Al was a 1965 graduate of Grand Haven High School. Following graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corp and served his country during Vietnam. On October 21, 1967, he married Diana B. Jones in Muskegon. Al owned and operated Ideal Signs and worked 20 years for Ottawa County Farms prior to semi-retirement. He was a life member of the VFW Post #6898 in Fremont and the Fruitport Eagles. Al loved his Wednesday golf league, camping on Diamond Lake, Plum Bob deer camp, Sunday afternoons playing KENO at 46 Bar, and hanging out in Gary’s Garage. But most importantly, Al was a family man and cherished every moment spent with them. SURVIVORS include his wife of 51 years, Diana; 3 children: Michelle “Shelley” Leyton of Muskegon, Scott Herrick of Tucson, AZ, Angela (Kevin) Sikkenga of Muskegon; 6 grandchildren: Sandra (Kyle) DeHaan, Gus (Sam) Wall, Miles Sikkenga, Cal (Sarah) Sikkenga, Natalie Sikkenga, Kelley Leyton; the lights of his life were his 4 great-grandchildren: Rylee Bliss, Brylin DeHaan, Remington Wall, Easton DeHaan; brother, Harvey “Mike” Herrick of Grand Rapids; sister, Sandra Hecksel of Muskegon; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and close friend, Scott Plummer. A Celebration Visitation for Al will be held from 2-4 PM Saturday, June 1, 2019 at The Sytsema Chapel of Sytsema Funeral and Cremation Services, 737 Apple Ave., Muskegon, MI 49442 (231) 726-5210, with full Military Honors starting at 4 PM.
