Frank John Holtrop's Obituary
Mr. Frank John Holtrop, age 89, went to be with his Lord, Thursday, March 29, 2012 at Providence Health Care in Zeeland, MI. Mr. Holtrop was born August 27, 1922 in Muskegon to Cornelius and Hilda (VanDyke) Holtrop, and resided in the area all of his life. He was a Veteran of the US Army, having served in WWII in the medical corp as an x-ray tech. Mr. Holtrop worked for Lift Tech as a welder for 34 years, before retiring in 1984. He was a member of First Christian Reformed Church, where he was a Sunday School teacher, Deacon, Elder, Cadet Counselor, and attended the Men’s Bible Class. Mr. Holtrop’s lifelong hobby was homing pigeon racing, and was a member of the Greater Muskegon Pigeon Club for many years. On March 3, 1950, he married the former Irene VanDuinen, and together celebrated 47 years of marriage before she preceded him in death on June 7, 1997. SURVIVORS include 5 children, Ann (David) Pyle of Zeeland, Daniel (Cheri) Holtrop of Grand Haven, Bonnie (Dick) Fisher of Muskegon, Debby (Dana) Sammons of Byron Center, MI and Kristi (Tom) Nissalke of Peachtree City, GA; 11 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; 2 sisters, Grace Portenga of Muskegon, Evelyn (Gerrit) VanRandwyk of E. Lansing, MI; brother-in-law, John VanRandwyk; and sisters-in-law, Ethel Holtrop, Clara Timmer, Cynthia (Jim) Byl and Marion VanDuinen. Mr. Holtrop was also preceded in death by 4 brothers, James, Orin, John and Alvin Holtrop; and 1 sister, Henrietta VanRandwyk. The FUNERAL SERVICE will be 11AM Monday at The Lee Chapel, Sytsema Funeral Homes, Inc. 6291 S. Harvey St. 231-798-1100, with Rev. Ecko DeVries officiating. VISITATION with the family will be 6-9PM Sunday and 1 hour prior to the service, from 10-11AM. Burial will take place in Sunrise Memorial Gardens.
