Fred Harjer's Obituary
Mr. Fred Harjer, age 98, passed away Thursday, July 21, 2011. Born September 17, 1912 to Ben John, Sr. and Henrietta (VanZuthem) Harjer, he was a resident of Muskegon most of his life. He married the former Gertrude J. “Gert” VanZanten Shepherd in 1968, and she died in June, 2003. Mr. Harjer served in the US Marine Corps during World War II. He was a retiree of Teledyne Continental Motors Corp., and a member of Grace Memorial Baptist Church. His SURVIVORS include three brothers: Michael (Hazel) Harjer of Muskegon, Harold Harjer and Everett “Buck” (Dorothy) Harjer both of Arizona; three sisters: Etta Bell, Joann Paul, and Loretta “Peg” (Bob) Forrest all of Muskegon; three sisters-in-law; a brother-in-law; and many nieces and nephews including a special niece, Elizabeth (Ron) Anderson of Brohman. His parents, wife, a sister and five brothers predeceased him. The FUNERAL SERVICE for Mr. Harjer will be held 2:00 P.M. Monday, July 25, 2011 at The Sytsema Chapel, Sytsema Funeral Homes, Inc., 737 Apple Avenue, Muskegon, MI 49442, phone 231-726-5210with Pastor John Frank officiating and interment in Sunrise Memorial Gardens. VISITATION will be from 1-2 P.M. Monday. In lieu of flowers, MEMORIAL CONTRIBUTIONS may be made to Grace Memorial Baptist Church.
