Fred J. "Pete" Bishop's Obituary
Mr. Fredric J. “Pete” Bishop, age 92, passed away on Father’s Day Sunday, June 19, 2016; and went to be with his Lord and Savior. He was born December 4, 1923 in Muskegon to Frederick J. and Winifred (Drewes) Bishop; and had been a life-long resident of the area. Pete retired, in 1984, as President and owner of Bishop Heating and Air Conditioning, that he founded with his brother, John, in 1948. He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in the South Pacific Theater. Pete was a life-long member of Allen Avenue Christian Reformed Church, where he served as an Elder, Deacon, Cadet Counselor and long-time member of the building committee. He was a life time member of the Muskegon Host Lions Club. On June 7, 1946 he married the former Delores “Dee” Hoeksema; and together, recently celebrated 70 years of marriage with an open house. Pete remained active during his retirement years making various pieces of furniture for his family, and serving with Bethany Housing and Love, Inc. SURVIVORS include his wife, Delores; son, David and wife Joanne Bishop of Norton Shores; and daughter, Gayla Batts of Grosse Pointe Park, MI; 8 grandchildren, Meredith (Dan) Best, Scott (Melissa) Bishop, Amy (Scott) Trifan, Samantha (Brian) Sipe, Steven (Crystal) Bishop, Kimberley Batts, Michael (Kristin) Batts and Susan (Scott) Sutorka; 17 great-grandchildren and 2 sisters, Harriet Israels, Nelva “Micky” VanAndel and by his brother-in-law, Ronald Hoeksema. Pete was preceded in death by his son, Greg (Dec'd 2005); son-in-law, John Batts (Dec'd 1987) and siblings, John, Robert and Henry Bishop, Doris King, Ann Minor and Delores “Dolly” Mulder. FUNERAL SERVICES will be held 11:00 AM Wednesday, June 22, 2016, at Allen Avenue Christian Reformed Church (695 E. Allen Avenue, Muskegon, MI 49442) with Pastor Tom Pettinga officiating. Burial will be in Restlawn Cemetery. VISITATION with Pete’s family will be 5:00 – 8:00 PM Tuesday at The Lee Chapel, 6291 S. Harvey Street, Norton Shores, MI 49444 (231-798-1100).
