Mr. Fred G. Smith's Obituary
Mr. Fred G. Smith, age 82, passed away early Monday morning, December 9, 2013. He was born July 3, 1931 in Big Rapids, MI to Fred and Sylvia (Stewart) Smith. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean War and a member of the Muskegon Heights Eagles. Mr. Smith worked as an installer for 49 years for Sietsema Floor Coverings before retiring. He enjoyed spending time at the flea market, where he was affectionately known as “The Chair Man”. He loved hunting, fishing, gardening, and was an avid Detroit Tiger sports fan. On June 26, 1954 he married the former Catherine Schultz in Shelby, MI and she preceded him in death on March 10, 2008. SURVIVORS include a daughter, Cindy (Gary) Meister of Muskegon; 2 sons, Michael (Mary) Smith, Randy (Karen) Smith both of Muskegon; 7 grandchildren, Becky (Mark) Lynn, Brian (Keri) Meister, Gary Meister II, Megan Steinman, Randi Marie (Neil) Faught, Erica Smith, Brent Smith; 7 great-grandchildren, Jacob and Emma Lynn, Hunter, Mackenzie, and Brady Meister, Madyson and Brody Faught; 2 brothers, Louis (Carol) Smith, David (Patty) Smith; 2 sisters, Shirley (Roger) Schultz, Linda Tanner; brother-in-law, Ted Zoulek; 3 sisters-in-law, Sally Smith, Kathy Smith, Sue Smith; many nieces and nephews; and his loving companion “Diva” the dog. He was also preceded in death by 3 brothers, Theodore, Lawrence, and Dennis; and 2 sisters, Wanda Zoulek and Nancy Workman. SERVICES will be 11:00 AM Friday, December 13, 2013 at The Walburn Chapel, 1547 W. Sherman Blvd., (231) 759-8565 with Rev. Mark Gilson officiating. Burial will be in Norton Cemetery.
