Frederick M. Lewis' Obituary
Retired Judge Frederick M. Lewis, age 94, passed away Wednesday, February 28, 2018 at the Poppen Residence. He was born on September 5, 1923 in St. Johns, MI to Frederick M. and Gladys (Mahar) Lewis, and resided in the Muskegon area since 1987. Fred was a WWII Veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps, and a member of the China Burma India Club. He went on to graduate from the University of Michigan Law School and became the Prosecuting Attorney in St. Johns, Michigan, prior to becoming a Judge in Clinton County, Michigan. Fred was a member of First Congregational Church in Muskegon. He also was Pipe Major of the Glen Erin Pipe Band, belonged to the Muskegon Regional Police Pipes & Drums, the Michigan State Bar Association and University of Michigan Law Review. Fred enjoyed sailing and working on crossword puzzles. On September 4, 1987, he married the former Leigh Cleeve and she survives him along with his two daughters, Maureen (Dale) Scott of Harbor Springs, Linda (Bob) Williams of Mt. Clemens; Leigh’s children, Terri (Rick) Collins of Highpoint, NC, Russ (Natalie) Beland of St. Joseph, MI, and Becky (Matt) McKinnon of Jenison, MI; 12 grandchildren; and five great grandchildren. Fred was preceded in death by his daughter, Nancy Cullity; and son, Jeremy Lewis. MEMORIAL SERVICES will be 3 PM, Saturday April 14, 2018 at First Congregational Church (1201 Jefferson St.) with Rev. Tim VanderHaar officiating. VISITATION with the family will be one hour prior to the service.
