Frederick "Dale" McKay's Obituary
Frederick “Dale” McKay, age 95, passed away at home on Friday, November 29, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on April 6, 1929, to Fred and Oneita (McLean) McKay in Kalkaska County, MI, but made his way to Muskegon in 1951. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving during World War II. On April 11, 1953, he married the love of his life, Dorothea “Pete” Storm at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Muskegon. Together they cherished 71 years full of love, laughter and partnership that spoke volumes of the life they created. Dale was a dedicated employee of Commercial Equipment Company where he worked as a service representative for 30 years before retiring in 1991. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed spending his time hunting and fishing. Dale was a well-rounded man, skilled in woodworking, making his own wine and maintaining a beautiful garden. He enjoyed being out on the greens golfing or perfecting his bowling skills. Above all, he was a family man who was willing to do whatever was needed for the ones he loved. His family could not have asked for a better husband, father or grandfather. Dale was a quiet and patient man, but his smile and laughter could easily brighten your day. He will truly be missed by the many who knew and loved him. Dale is survived by his loving wife, Dorothea “Pete” McKay; three children, Michael McKay, David McKay and Lynda (Will) Burdon; six grandchildren, Amanda (Shad) Harvey, Cameron McKay, Jacob McKay, Josh Burdon, Jordan Burdon and Zack Burdon; two great-grandchildren, Jameson and Jackson Harvey; sister-in-law, Phylis McKay; cousin, Gene McLean; numerous nieces and nephews; and caregiver, Amber. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Nancy McKay; sister, Marian Webster; four brothers, James (Beverly) McKay, Jack McKay, Richard (Pearl) McKay; and Philip (Anna) McKay; and great-granddaughter, Madison McKay. A Memorial Mass will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, December 10, 2024, in the Marian Chapel at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, 2929 McCracken St., Norton Shores, MI 49441 with visitation one-hour prior. Arrangements entrusted to The Walburn Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 1547 W. Sherman Blvd., Muskegon, MI 49441. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Dale’s honor can be directed to Hospice of Michigan for the amazing team and wonderful care they provided for Dale.
