Frederick W. Snider Jr.'s Obituary
Mr. Frederick W. Snider, Jr. age 92, of Spring Lake passed away Thursday, March 30, 2017 at Heartwood Lodge. He was born January 17, 1925 in Morgan Park, IL to Frederick, Sr. and Stella (Claussen). On June 12, 1948 he married Anna M. Ploeger.
Together with his wife they were members of St. John’s Lutheran Church. He served his country in the US Army during WWII and was in the Pacific Theater. After serving in the Army he joined the Merchant Marines and then retired from the Army Corps of Engineers. He was a member of the Sgt. Alvin Jonker VFW Post 2326, Grand Haven Elks Lodge #1200. In retirement Frederick was the proud owner and operator of the Harbor Steamer with his family for 7 years. He enjoyed riding his motorcycles and helping animals in need, but most of all spending time with his beloved family.
He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Anna; three children: Ernst Frederick (Gwen) Snider, of Grand Haven, Mary Ann (Michael Frank) Litviak of Bolingbrook, IL, Stella (Robert Frederick) Kopes, of Grays Lake, IL; four grandchildren: Erin, and Thomas Frederick Gilruth, Rhiannon, and Veronica Parise; three great-grandchildren: Kayley, Julia, and Perry; sister-in-law, Trudy Kronberg. He was preceded in death by his brother, Herbert Claussen Snider.
A memorial service will be held 1:00 PM Saturday, April 8, 2017 at St. John’s Lutheran Church with Pastor Dennis Lassanske officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at church.
