Frederick August Schertenlieb's Obituary
Mr. Frederick August Schertenlieb, age 92, passed away at Bob and Merle Scolnik VNS Hospice House Wednesday, September 8, 2010. Fred was born May 6, 1918 to Fred and Anna (Rothenbuler) Schertenlieb in Muskegon. He served his country in the US Army during WWII. On March 26, 1947 he married the former Ruth Doremire. Fred was employed as a driver for the City of Muskegon Highway Department for 27 years prior to his retirement in 1976. Fred loved his garden, fishing and catching snapping turtles on the Muskegon River but most of all, he loved spending time with his family. He is SURVIVED by Ruth, his beloved wife of 63 years; 4 children, Fred A. (Brenda) Schertenlieb, Jr. of Scottsdale, AZ, Carol A. (Bob) Taylor of Muskegon, Edward W. (Mindy) Schertenlieb of Reeds Spring, MO and Jan (Joe) Krypel of Muskegon; 7 grandchildren; 1 great-grandson and many nieces and nephews. Fred was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Charles, Ernest and Otto; sisters, Lydia Faucher, Bertha McCrain and Mary Humphreys. A FUNERAL SERVICE will be held 1:00 PM Tuesday, September 14, 2010 at The Sytsema Chapel, Sytsema Funeral Homes, Inc. 737 Apple Avenue 231 726-5210 with Rev. Jonathan Rager officiating. Visitation will be 2-4 & 6-8 PM Monday. Burial will be at Restlawn Cemetery. Memorial contributions in Fred’s name may be made to the Bob and Merle Scolnik VNS Hospice House.
