Frederick E. "Fritz" Berg's Obituary
Mr. Frederick E. “Fritz” Berg, age 95, passed away Tuesday, May 10, 2011 at the Heartwood Lodge in Spring Lake. He was born on August 16, 1915 in Muskegon to Carl and Anna (Swarvar) Berg, and resided in the area his entire life. Fritz was a tool and die maker at American Coil Spring for 42 years, before retiring in 1976. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, and belonged to the Muskegon Eagles, Moose and Elks. Fritz loved to fish, hunt, bowl, and especially enjoyed golfing and his trips to Canada fishing with his brothers, Norman and Harold. On August 10, 1940 he married the former Phyllis Holmes, and she preceded him in death on September 7, 2009. SURVIVORS include 2 children, Sharon (Leland) Decent of Wauchula, FL, and Glenn (Janet) Berg of Grand Haven; 6 grandchildren, Lori (David) McDiarmid, Denise (Mark) Debri, Rachel (Jason) Anderson, Cheré (Ken) Smith, Mitch Decent, Tim Decent; 6 great grandchildren; 3 brothers, Norman Berg, Leonard (Voloyce) Berg and Arthur Berg all of Muskegon; and sister, Dorothy Smith also of Muskegon. Fritz was also preceded in death by his parents, 6 brothers, and 1 sister. A Graveside Service will be held Monday, May 16 at 12PM at Sunrise Memorial Gardens (2188 Remembrance Drive, Muskegon). A MEMORIAL SERVICE to follow at Immanuel Lutheran Church (930 Creston Ave.) at 1:30PM. Memorial Contributions to the Alzheimer’s Association in Fritz’s name will be appreciated.
