Gail E. Courim's Obituary
Gail E. Courim, age 78, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 18, 2024, surrounded by her loving daughters. She was born on December 7, 1945, to Alexander and Doris (Kunzwaller) Baron in Grand Rapids, MI. Gail graduated from East Grand Rapids High School in 1964. She continued to Ferris University, where she found more than any book could offer. Gail found the love of her life, Bruce Butler Courim on a blind date and they instantly clicked. They married on November 9, 1968, in Grand Rapids, MI cherishing 51 years full of love, laughter and a lot of banter. Gail loved seeing and exploring new places. She was an avid traveler and visited 46 states. She also enjoyed cruises, spending 25 of them with Bruce right by her side, enjoying the midnight buffet or pressing their luck. The two had a love for penny slots whenever they made it to the casino, which may have been a hobby of its own, that’s where you would find them. She was also known as a lady who loved to lunch with her friends, often getting the birthday discount at Lefty’s. Above all, she loved spending time with her family. Gail was a loving mom, wonderful grandma, and dear friend to many. Her tender-loving and sweet personality will be missed. She is survived by her loving daughters, Brenda Courim and Julie (Bill) Varga; four grandchildren, Lily, Sam, Adam and Lexi; sister-in-law, Karen Baron; nieces and nephews, Stephanie (Mike) Federlein, Shelly Baron, Michael Baron and Greg (Nicole) Baron; great-aunt to nine; and best friend, Bonnie (Ron) Micka. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bruce Courim; and brother, Bruce Baron. A Celebration of Life Gathering will be held from 1-3:00 PM on Saturday, March 2, 2024, at The Lee Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 6291 S. Harvey St., Norton Shores, MI 49444. The family requests casual attire, that’s what Gail would have wanted. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in her honor can be directed to AgeWell Services-Meals on Wheels.
