Gail Ann Guerrero's Obituary
Gail Ann Guerrero, age 76, passed away Sunday, January 7, 2024. She was born August 22, 1946 in Muskegon, MI to Fred and Mary (Bray) Johnston and spent her childhood in Jacksonville, FL and moved back to Muskegon after high school. Gail was a member of the Little River Band of Ottawa Indians. She worked over 30 years for GTE/Verizon as an operator when they still had “plug-ins” and retired as a manager in 1999. She later worked as a caterer and was a cook for the Solutions Learning Group. She married Antonio Guerrero on September 15, 1965 in Muskegon and preceded her in death on January 6, 2023. Gail was a member of St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. She enjoyed sewing and crafting and had a great sense of humor. Gail had a very special bond with her sister-in-law, Maria Guerrero and they were affectionately known as “Thelma & Louise” to their family for the many shenanigans they engaged in over the years. Gail also loved Bassett Hounds, gardening, casinos and her Native American Heritage. Survivors include her daughter, Toni Ann (wife, Aurora Wesley) Guerrero-Wesley; 4 grandchildren, Antonio Thomas Guerrero, Marcello Weaver, Ayla Weaver, Zain Maxon; 1 brother, John (Lisa) Johnston; 2 sisters, Joni (David) Brice, Judy Johnston; one special sister-in-law, Maria Guerrero and family; many sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews and close extended family and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, 1 brother, Fred Johnston, 1 nephew, Jordan Johnston, and 4 brothers-in-law, Chuck Guerrero, Tom Guerrero, Alberto Guerrero, and James Sebring. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 AM Monday, January 15, 2024 at St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church (239 W. Clay Ave) with the Rev. Fr. Kyle Kilpatrick presiding. Visitation will be held 4-7 PM Sunday at The Sytsema Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 737 Apple Ave, Muskegon, MI 49442, where a tribute to the Little River Band of Ottawa Indians will be held at 4:30 PM Sunday. Visitation will also be held one hour prior to the Mass on Monday at the church. Memorial Contributions may be directed to the American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association.
