Gary D. Monson's Obituary
Gary Monson, age 73, was born March 21, 1951, to Douglas and Lillian (Kalsbeek) Monson. He passed away at home, April 29, 2024, surrounded by his loving wife and daughters, after a long battle with dementia. After graduating from Reeths-Puffer High School he married his high school sweetheart, Sue Reed, on August 28th, 1970. Gary attended Muskegon Community College and worked at Brunswick for 37 years. He loved trout fishing on the Pere Marquette River, boating, camping, spending time with family, taking naps and holding babies. He was an avid Lions and Spartans fan. Preceding him in death was his brother, Tom Monson; nephew, Troy Chalko; sister-in-law, Joy Chalko, brother-in-law, Mark Schaab; in-laws, John and Irene Reed; his parents, Douglas and Lillian (Kalsbeek) Monson, and his best four-legged friend, Casey. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Sue Monson; daughters, Lisa (Adam) Saile, Laura (David Chalenski) Monson; grandchildren, Corinne (Keegan) Urban, Justin (Chloe Hentkowski) Saile, Elisabeth and Lucas Chalenski; great-grandchildren, Preston Hentkowski, Adelynn, Kash, Kanen and Savannah Urban; brothers, George and Greg Monson; sister, Mary (Jim) Bowditch; brother-in-law, Oscar (Darlene) Reed; sister-in-law, Renee Schaab and partner Joe Nemeth; brother-in-law, John Chalko, many nieces and nephews, and special friends Deb Monson Faucher and Bruce and Julie Herrick. A CELEBRATION OF LIFE will be held at the Lee Chapel, of Sytsema Funeral and Cremation Services on, May 11, 2024, from 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made out to Harbor Hospice Foundation and Twin Lake Community Church.
