Gary George Ruttan's Obituary
Gary George Ruttan, age 75, of Grand Haven passed away Thursday, March 22, 2018, at Heartwood Lodge North Ottawa Care Center after a long battle with Parkinson’s Disease. He was born December 20, 1942, in Lansing to George C. and June Elizabeth (Wagenshutz) Ruttan, and married Dana Gezon on September 4, 1981, in Grand Haven.
Gary was member of St. John’s Episcopal Church in Grand Haven. He served his country in the Army and received his MBA from Central Michigan University. Gary worked as production manager for Kandu Industries and later worked for the Ottawa County Sherriff’s Department as an animal control officer. He loved his church, his family, the outdoors, animals, traveling, gardening, hunting, and fishing for perch on Drummond Island with his buddies, Dave Peck and Jim Beall.
He is lovingly remembered by his wife, Dana Gezon; daughter, Jennifer Serafin; son, Peter (Lucinda) Ruttan; step-daughter, Laura Boter; seven grandchildren: Leah Csernai, Kara Csernai, Peter Ruttan, Maya Serafin, Lucas Serafin, Jacob Serafin, and Layla Boter; two brothers, Duane (Becky) Ruttan and Dale (Mary) Ruttan; sister-in-laws, Sue Kuyers and Linda (Ken) Anderson; brother-in-law, Larry (Becky) Gezon; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, April 12, 2018, at St. John’s Episcopal Church with Rev. Dr. Jared Cramer officiating. Military rites will be provided by the Charles A. Conklin American Legion Post # 28 Honor Guard. Memorial contributions to St. John’s Episcopal Church or Harbor Humane Society are appreciated.
