Gary J. Sandberg's Obituary
Gary J. Sandberg, age 80, passed away Wednesday morning, July 31, 2019. He was born August 2, 1938 in Muskegon to George and Theola (Stenholm) Sandberg. Gary graduated from Muskegon High School and received his Bachelor of Engineering from Aquinas College. He was a proud Marine Corp Veteran and served during Vietnam. Gary worked for the JSJ Corporation as an industrial engineer for many years prior to retiring in 2000. On December 10, 1965, he married the love of his life, the former Joan Dowdy, in Muskegon. He was a member of the Viking Linne Lodge #57 and the Muskegon Elks Lodge #274. Gary was an avid golfer and enjoyed boating. But most importantly, he loved spending time with family and friends. SURVIVORS include his wife, Joan; 2 daughters: Sheila (Morgan) Justice, Beth Ann (Tim) Aebig both of Muskegon; 5 grandchildren: Shelby, Hannah, Ryan, Britney, and Brandy; 3 great-grandchildren: Payton, AnnElise and Keely; brother, Kim Sandberg of Muskegon; sister, Sally Jazdzyk of Grand Rapids; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son, Maurice “Bud” Vanderstelt, Jr. on July 19, 2019. A PRIVATE GRAVESIDE SERVICE with full military honors will be held. A MEMORIAL GATHERING for Gary and his son, Bud, will be held Saturday, August 24, 2019 at the Viking Linne Lodge #57 (3132 Lakeshore Dr.) from 1-5 PM, where friends and family can gather to share in grief yet celebrate their lives.
