Gary L. Simon's Obituary
Gary Lee Simon passed away Sunday February 8, 2026, in Lansing, MI at the age of 68 after struggling for many years with Parkinson's Disease. He was born on October 8, 1957, to James J. and Letha (Thomas) Simon. He was preceded in death by his father and his beloved cat, Bella.
After graduation from high school in Delton, MI in 1975, Gary enlisted in the U.S. Army. He was stationed in Germany for three years and served the final year of his enlistment in Colorado. He then moved to Texas and graduated from trade school as a certified auto mechanic, where he was employed in the Fort Worth area by the Tarrant County Intermediate School District. He returned to Michigan in 2017.
Gary enjoyed outdoor activities, especially fishing, hunting, and golf. He was also an avid card and games player and had a wonderful sense of humor.
Gary is survived by his mother, Lee (Simon) Gannon; brother, James, of Roosevelt, UT; and sister, Anne, of Lansing, MI. Also surviving are Mary Salter and her family from the Muskegon, MI area, and his extended families, the Massengills, Collins, and Stuckeys in Texas and the Carters in Wisconsin.
Per Gary’s wishes he will be cremated and interred in Prairieville, MI. A Celebration of Life will be held for Gary in April 2026, details will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to your local animal shelter.
