Gary Stano's Obituary
Gary Hendrick Stano, age 73, passed away peacefully at Douglas Cove Care Facility in Douglas, MI on Tuesday, September 28, 2021, after a long battle with Myelodysplastic Syndrome (MDS).
Gary was born on June 12, 1948, to Anthony and Veronica (Markiewicz) Stano in Erie Pennsylvania. He lived in Erie and moved with the family to Muskegon/Norton Shores, MI in 1956. He spent most of his life in Norton Shores and various community homes in the area, the last being Holland, MI before his move to Douglas.
Gary was a very social guy - which you knew immediately upon crossing his path! He worked for 20+ years at the former Muskegon General Hospital and a number of years at KANDU Industries in Holland. He was a hard worker and would not want to leave any job unfinished. He was also a fixture at Hahn’s Drug Store, Dog & Suds, and Pizza Hut in Norton Shores. He was easily entertained and was just happy talking to people and being in their company.
Gary was predeceased by his parents. He will be missed by his brother, Randy and Karen Stano; their daughters, Stephanie (Todd) Harbin and Amy (Caleb) Fisher; sister, Beverly and Tony Maltese; their children: Anthony (Valerie) Maltese, Amanda (Eric) Sayler and Thomas Maltese; sister, Elaine and Jim Perez; their daughter, Tina (Greg) Gavin. Friends and acquaintances too numerous to mention that lit up his life more than they will ever know. No matter where - SOMEone always knew him wherever he went.
A special thank you to his many caregivers over the years. We felt that he was loved in your homes and it gave our family great comfort. You treated him with respect and kindness for which we are grateful.
A Memorial Mass will be held 11:00 AM Wednesday, October 13, 2021, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Spring Lake. Visitation will be held 1 hour prior to the service at church. Interment will take place in Spring Lake Township Cemetery. Memorials can be made in Gary’s memory to LifeCircles PACE, 12330 James St. Suite H-10, Holland, MI 49424.
