Gary Alan Vanderlaan's Obituary
Gary Alan Vanderlaan, age 75, passed away Tuesday, April 17, 2018 at home. He was born on October 26, 1942 to Dale and Sarah (Rice) Vanderlaan in Spokane, WA. He was a member of Jibson Immanuel Baptist Church. Gary served 20 years in the military; four years in the US Navy and 16 years in the Air Force. He worked 20 years as a SR compliance investigator for the Department of Agriculture in Indiana. Gary was a member of the VFW Post 7729 and the Muskegon Gun Club. He enjoyed hunting and fishing with his brothers and riding his motorcycle. On April 22, 1989, he married Sandy Parmer and she survives him along with 2 children, Scott (Debbie) Vanderlaan and Barbara Jo Jones; brothers, Terry "Mike" Vanderlaan, Danny (Sherri) Vanderlaan and sister, Sarah Sue (Ron) Ellis. He was preceded in death by his son, John Vanderlaan, parents, brothers, Tom and Randy Vanderlaan and sister and brother-in-law, Cynthia (David) Hayes. A MEMORIAL SERVICE and military honors will be held 11:00 AM, Friday, May 11, 2018 at the Jibson Immanuel Baptist Church (7960 Evanston Ave) with Pastor Dan Smith officiating. VISITATION with the family will be one hour prior to the service. Burial will take place at Egelston Township Cemetery. MEMORIALS can be directed to the Johnson Family Cancer Center.
