Gayle L. Osterman's Obituary
Gayle Leslie Osterman, age 67, passed away on Saturday, March 29, 2025. She was born on September 15, 1957, in Lansing, MI. She attended Mesick High School and later cosmetology school in Grand Rapids, MI. Gayle then built a thriving nail clientele at The Merle Norman Cosmetics in Muskegon, MI that she co-owned with her mother. She later went on to be owner/operator of Gayle’s Family Video in Fruitport, MI. Gayle also for a short time owned This ‘N’ That Variety Consignment Shop in Fruitport, MI. On December 17, 1994, she married James E. Osterman in Muskegon. In the later years of her life, she was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis, which left her home bound. During this time, her loving husband, Jim, cared for her until his passing in 2022. After Jim’s passing, she moved to Pinckney, MI to be near family. Gayle is survived by her two daughters and one son, Nicole (Sean) Way, Maria (Jason) Opolka and Carl Weaver; five grandchildren, Hunter Way, Rozlin Opolka, Aliza Opolka, Conroy Opolka and James Weaver; one great-granddaughter, Skarlet Rose Opolka; one sister-in-law, Ruth (Michael) Benovic; and many nieces, nephews and close friends. Gayle was preceded in death by her husband, James Osterman; mother, Joan Anderson; brother, Troy Anderson; grandmother, Francis Amidon; grandfather, Carl Leslie Amidon; and many close relatives. A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, April 12, 2025, at The Lee Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 6291 S. Harvey St., Norton Shores, MI 49444. A Visitation with the family will be held one hour prior to the service. Inurnment will take place at Sunrise Memorial Gardens at a later date.
