Gene R. Wessels' Obituary
Mr. Gene R. Wessels, age 57, passed away on April 24, 2014 at the Poppen Residence. He was born to Donald and Delores “Dodie” (Keener) Wessels in Muskegon. When Gene was young, his mom “Dodie” married Glenn Collison and raised him together. Gene worked as a handyman and had a talent and passion for fixing anything. Gene graduated from Fruitport High School in 1975. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, NASCAR, camping and spending time with his family. He always enjoyed helping his honorary wives; wife 2, Julie and wife 3, Patti. On May 2, 2003 he married Barbara Best and she survives him along with 4 children; Ben (Jori) Schoenmaker, Beth (Dan) Albright, Angie (Jason) Herder and Vicki (Mike) Taylor; 7 grandchildren, Ryder, Virginia, Courtney, Alex, Zach, Tyler and Alexis; sisters, Carolyn (Don) Warren, Donna Willard, Norma (Jeff) Pearo, Jerri (Tim) Homoly, Glenna (Scott) Collison and Kim (Norm) Vandenbosch; brothers, Dave (Kim) Wessels and Steve Morrissey, He was preceded in death by his mother and his brother-in-law, Charles Willard. FUNERAL SERVICE will be held 1:00 PM on Tuesday, April 29, 2014 at The Lee Chapel 6291 Harvey St. 231-798-1100 with Rev. Ben J. Jansen officiating. VISITATION with the family will be 5-8 PM Monday at the funeral home. Burial will take place at Fruitport Cemetery. MEMORIALS to Harbor Hospice would be appreciated.
