Geneva May Hittle's Obituary
Mrs. Geneva May Hittle, age 98, passed away Sunday, March 1, 2020 in Muskegon. She was born in Rombauer, Missouri on April 2, 1921 to James and Minnie (Reading) Childress and grew up on a small farm where she worked in the fields for 10 cents per hour. Geneva attended school in a one-room schoolhouse. She moved to Muskegon in 1940 and worked at Muskegon Piston Ring, making $1.00 per hour, and she sure was happy. She decided there was no way she was going back to the farm. At the end of WWII, Geneva was working at CWC, and later retired from S.D. Warren at the age of 65. On May 4, 1946, Geneva married Lester Hittle and they enjoyed 56 years of marriage prior to his passing on July 9, 2002. Geneva and Lester enjoyed square dancing and belonged to the Hi-Nabors Square Dancing Club. She was an avid Detroit Tigers fan and was a member of Olivet Evangelical Free Church and a former member of Orchard View Congregational Church. She is survived by five grandchildren, Tracy (Linda) Skidmore, Andrea Hittle, Gary (Michelle) Wilks, Jerry Hittle, Heather Hittle, five great-grandchildren, Jessie (Krista) Hittle, K.C. Hittle, Seth Wilks, Brendan Wilks, and Alexandrea Hittle; and one great-great-grandson, Jasper Hittle. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lester; three children, Jerry Hittle, Sharon Wilks, and Linda Schutz; one son-in-law, Gary Wilks; two grandsons, Keith Skidmore and Rob Wilks; two brothers, Albert Childress and Oscar Childress; and one sister, Freda Hudleston.
