Geneva Moore-Gilliland's Obituary
Ms. Geneva Moore-Gilliland, age 71, departed from this life unexpectedly on Monday, July 12, 2021, at Medilodge Nursing Home. She was born on March 12, 1950, to Oscar Moore Sr. and Dorothy (Isaac) Moore in Sondheimer, LA. Geneva accepted Christ at an early age and was a faithful member at Christ Temple Apostolic Church. She graduated form Muskegon Heights High School with the class of 1968. Geneva worked as a nurse’s aid for many years. She became gainfully employed at Hackley Hospital, where she worked as a dietary aid for over 25 years. Geneva was an active member of Greater New Liberty C.O.G.I.C until her health failed.
Geneva was a wonderful mother of three children, six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, having picnics, and more sleepovers than you can count. Geneva enjoyed being around her family, and love to take pictures. She also loved doing word searches, watching Walker Texas Ranger which she called walker talker among others shows such as all lifetime movies, the price is right, and many other shows. Geneva also enjoyed hanging with her friends who are all special to her, Gloria Pulliam, Erma (Star) Gibson, and Louis Parker. Louis and Geneva shared the same birthday, that is how special they were to each other.
Geneva leaves to cherish in memories, two daughters, Lorraine Michelle (James) White and Lashonda Renee Houck; four granddaughters, Laquesha Monae Gilliland, Lakhyia Monique Gilliland, LasShontiana Brenee Williams, and Gemillia Shontrece Williams; two grandsons, Jesse James Joseph Houck II and Jamaal Kenyatta Houck; two great-granddaughters, Aubree Ruth Jennings, Journey Zoe Jennings; four sisters, Donna Marie (Billy) Walker Jr., Anita Moore, Carrie Ann Sullivan; and her cousin/sister, Katie Mae Isaac; two brothers, Oscar Moore Jr. and Arthur Moore; special niece, Donnita Marie Lambouths; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her father, Oscar Moore Sr.; mother, Dorothy Moore; son, Jamaal Kenyatta Gilliland; three sisters, Dassie Walsh, Georgia Dean, Willie Mae Gray; two brothers, Willie B. and Andrew; and son-in-law, Jessie James Joseph Houck
VISITATION for Geneva will be held from 4:00 – 7:00 PM Sunday, July 18, 2021 at The Lee Chapel of the Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 6291 S. Harvey St. Norton Shores, Michigan 49444. A CELEBRATION OF GENEVA’S LIFE will be held at 12:00 PM on Monday, July 19, 2021 at the Funeral Home. Burial will take place at Oakwood Cemetery (1452 Wood St.).
