Mr. George A. Bull Jr.'s Obituary
Mr. George A. Bull, Jr., age 92, passed away on Sunday, August 30, 2015. He was born June 19, 1923 in Muskegon Heights to George A., Sr. and Katherine H. Bull (Witt). In 1941 he graduated from St. Joseph High School and then enlisted in the Air Force Aviation Cadet program in 1942. George completed Air Force College Training in 1943 at West Virginia Wesleyan College; where he received officers pilot rating, 2nd Lt. at single engine flying school in Selma, AL and went on to be an instructor. At war’s end in Europe, he was transferred to B-29 training in San Antonio, Texas. From there he flew to the South Pacific to Tinian Air Force base in the Marianas Isles. He flew missions over Japan and participated in the 500 plane formation flying over the peace signing on the battleship Missouri in Tokyo Bay then on to the Philippines until returning home in 1946. George worked at Sealed Power until taking a position at Standard Automotive Part Co/ Burgess Norton in 1958 and retired in 1986 after 28 years. George married Janet Pavlak in January of 1948 and she preceded him in death in June of 2008. They celebrated their 60th year of marriage in January of 2008. He is survived by his children, Lawrence “Larry” Bull of Shrewsbury, MA, Kathy (Craig) Erickson of Port St. Lucie, FL and Muskegon, George (Patricia) Bull of S. Daytona, FL, and Mary Beth (Gene) Gray of Norton Shores; three grandsons, five great-granddaughters; sister, Eloise Engel of Grand Rapids; sisters-in-law, Pearl Bull, Mary Bull. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Audrey (Lyle) DeYoung and Jane (Norbert) Gallagher; brothers, Robert Bull and James Bull; daughter-in-law, Joan Bull; and brother-in-law, Judge Albert Engel. George had been a parishioner of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church since 1948, where he was an active member in CFM and ushered for many years. George was a former member of the Elks and Ambucs. He loved to play baseball and ride bikes in his youth, he always enjoyed big band music and playing bridge. He took up golf after the war and was on the board at Pontaluna Golf Course and belonged to White Lake Golf Course for 25 years. A MEMORIAL MASS will be held for George on Friday, September 11, 2015 at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church (2929 McCracken St.) at 11:30 AM with Rev. Fr. Philip Salmonowicz presiding. Visitation with the family will be an hour prior to services at the church. Private burial will take place in Mona View Cemetery.
